What To Expect From Treatments

Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) is a system designed to evaluate and treat muscular imbalances. It enlists a methodical approach for discovering and treating disrupted biomechanical relationships in the body which are often the cause of chronic pain or injury. Although it may appear to be counterintuitive, shoulder pain may be related to improper foot biomechanics or knee pain may be a result of weak or inhibited muscles in the hip. MAT employs a process of discovery, allowing these hidden imbalances to surface and in turn, be corrected.

During a treatment, a Muscle Activation Techniques Specialist will first evaluate the client's musculoskeletal system looking for limitations in range of motion. Once the inhibited muscles have been identified and activated, normal function may be restored.

The client should expect to be treated in areas other than where symptoms are presented. If the neck or back is symptomatic, for example, but the Specialist finds a more profound issue in the foot, the foot must be treated and restored before work is initiated in the more obvious areas.

It is possible that symptoms may be eliminated after one to three MAT sessions but this is not the norm. Most clients may expect to see results after four to six treatments. After the primary issues are resolved, simple exercises and monthly treatments are generally recommended for maintenance. Athletes training for a specific event or individuals with a history of injuries may require more visits for optimal results.

Typical workout clothing should be worn for MAT treatment sessions. Shorts and tee shirts or loose fitting clothing are most appropriate. Thick or stiff fabrics, large seams, buttons and zippers will interfere with treatment.
